the bedroom of their dreams

When blogger Stacey Kasdorf and her husband Jason, a professional athlete, bought their first home in early 2019, it needed a major update—both to reflect their personal style and, as Stacey puts it, “to bring it into this century.” As soon as they moved in, the couple got right to work updating their daughters’ bedrooms and the shared areas of the house, but put their own master bedroom on the backburner, quickly furnishing it with Jason’s old furniture and a queen bed for the time being.

Fast forward to over a year, and many, many projects later, the Kasdorfs have the home of their dreams, complete with a master bedroom retreat that they absolutely love, thanks to a little help from Dufresne.

A bed fit for a king—or a hockey player
Standing at 6’4”, it’s no surprise that the first item on Jason’s wish list was a king bed. However, Stacey wasn’t sure that they could fit one in their small bedroom, nor could she find one that matched exactly what she was envisioning—light beige with a tufted headboard.

After a few months of searching, the couple found their dream bed—the fully-customizable William King Storage Bed from Dufresne. Not only did the bed’s large, built-in drawer allow the couple to eliminate a chest of drawers in the room (and free up much-needed floor space), Stacey was able to choose the headboard style, fabric and colour to perfectly fit the look she was going for.

“Dufresne had about 20 different styles of headboard to choose from, and more fabric options that I could count,” says the busy mom of three girls. “I was able to bring home my top four fabric choices and put them up in my bedroom to make sure the colour worked with our paint and carpet. It's nice to know you're getting exactly what you want for such a big purchase!"

Besides fulfilling Jason’s wish for a king bed, and creating a stunning focal point, Stacey says getting the William bed had one other surprising benefit—with fewer pieces of furniture in the room, the small master bedroom now feels more spacious.

It’s all in the details
To flank the bed and provide landing spots for the couple’s nighttime essentials, Stacey chose a pair of whitewashed Bellaby Nightstands. In addition to a drawer and shelf that provide much-needed storage in the small room, each nightstand has a built-in USB charging station which helps keep the space free of multiple hanging cords.

Stacey hung a pair of Williamette Mirrors in an antique grey finish above the nightstands to reflect light and add depth to the room—another great tip for visually expanding a small space. Hung vertically, the curving keyhole-shaped mirrors draw the eye upward and break-up the strong horizontal line created by the tall, upholstered headboard.

Pulling it all together
For another touch of softness, Stacey added luxurious white bed linens and a set of lightweight white drapes which filter the light beautifully. Finally, some well-chosen decorative accessories, plants, and a DIY gallery wall showcasing nine of the couple’s favourite family photographs bring the room to life.

Now the room that was once an afterthought is a space that the couple can’t wait to retreat to at the end of the day.

“Every night, we walk into that room and comment on how much we LOVE it,” says Stacey. “It came together exactly as I pictured, and we couldn't have done it without Dufresne.”
