Q & A with Style Ambassador Kathleen Germs
What made you decide to tackle the dining room with this makeover? We recently moved into a new home, and have been working towards incorporating a modern farmhouse look throughout. Out of all the rooms in our house, the dining room was definitely top of my list for a makeover!
What was your vision for the room? As a mom of young kids, I wanted to create a welcoming dining area where we could have lots of family conversations. My boys love to do crafts and colouring – so I was also looking for pieces that would be comfy and accommodate all their needs! Look wise, I wanted a rustic table and dining room chairs to match the new colours in our home.
What three words would you use to describe how you wanted your new dining space to feel? Inviting, cozy, and loving.
How did you approach choosing furniture/accessories for the space? Do you have any tips to share? Pinterest was super helpful in determining which pieces would help bring that modern farmhouse look to life! I would highly recommend building a vision board before you start, as it can really help with picking items that match your goals on the website.
Besides new furniture, did you make any other changes to the room to bring your vision to life? Absolutely! To help tie everything together, we added some wall art!
How close to your original vision is the new room? What do you love about it? Our dining space is exactly what I wanted and more. Everyone that comes over comments on how much they love our kitchen, and how cohesive everything is throughout the space. The dining room table and carpet are a true focal point for the space, and really brought the modern farmhouse theme to life!
How does your new space reflect your lifestyle? From crafts to dinner parties and everything in between, we have a really busy household. The big table truly accommodates all our needs and will continue to be useful as the boys grow up too!
Do you have any advice for creating a multi-functional, family-friendly space? I absolutely love the carpet under the table. I know lots of people think I’m nutty for having a carpet, but it really breaks up the space and adds to the coziness. I also chose a carpet with dark spots in it so that when food gets dropped, it wouldn’t be super noticeable. Let me tell you, I have two very messy boys and the carpet has not been a problem!
