Cleaning your Sofa

So – you bought your sofa, you skipped the protection plan, and OOPS, life happens and now your sofa is stained! We have some helpful hints to get those stains gone for good! (Next time just check out the protection plans)

Before you start, always test a spot on an unseen part of your sofa to make sure you don’t wreck the fabric of your sofa! If something happens at least it’s on a spot you can’t see!

Fabric

Firstly wipe down your sofa with a dry clean cloth and vacuum to get off any dust or dried gunk. We suggest avoiding a stiff brush as scrubbing could wear a hole. Then sprinkle baking soda on your sofa for 20 minutes, To get a deeper clean, mix it with some dry carpet cleaner and for pesky spots use the clean cloth to really rub the baking soda in there. Vacuum up the baking soda with your furniture/mattress attachment (a brush attachment works too). If there is a persistent stain, check out some cleaning solutions that are suitable for your sofa's fabric.

Leather

Your leather sofa should only need a dusting here or there and a leather conditioner monthly to keep the leather soft. So take your clean cloth and use some mild soap and water to give your leather sofa a wipe down. For stains look for specific leather soaps also known as saddle soap. Darker stains can be removed by a cotton ball dipped in rubbing alcohol. Just make sure you are dabbing at the stain so you don’t spread it, and test a spot on the leather where no one will see.
